Black Belt for Peter Keane
Pictured left is Peter Keane from Waterford Judo Club being presented with his 1st Dan black belt from club coach, Pat O' Sullivan. Peter earned this promotion at the recently held national grading of the Irish Judo Association. Peter trained and studied extremely hard over the last two years to earn this grade. For promotion to 1st Dan black belt in Judo, brown belt grades have to compete and decisively beat people with the same grade. Once ten Ippon or "knock out" victories have been secured, aspiring black belts must then undertake a technical examination and kata demonstration. This process ensures promotion & survival of the fittest in this unique art which is also an Olympic sport. Congratulations Peter and well done from your club mates. Congratulations are also due to Brian Wyse who underwent a similar process to secure his blue belt grade.
